Stunning Majolica Plates
This plate is in great condition considering age but does show significant marks and glaze inconsistencies that just add to these stunning plates and their charm. They also have evident stilt marks from being fired.
The makers mark on the back is faint, but is confirmed as an R&S Majolica Piece.
We have several of these plates available, all of which have been in a family collection for 30-40 Years.

"Majolica dishes are a gorgeous saturated green color, designed with incredible whimsy and joy. The plates measure 7-3/4 inches in diameter and are about 1 inch tall. There is a beautiful overall texture of lettuce leaves on the round face of the plate, arranged in a circular motion to the edge. The greens are deep and vary in color; there is some very nice pooling of glaze happening on the plates that creates even richer colors.
These three plates are marked with an anchor symbol on the base, letters R and S. The makers of these dishes is Emile Regal and Jules Sanejouand, of Clairefontaine France. The plates were produced in the late 1860s.
Three stilt marks are visible on the base of the plates, which is how they were raised to be glazed when fired. These are Victorian dishes, circa 1890, so crazing on the glaze only adds character to these pieces."
